Press Release Body = A man and a woman who were shot to death in a moving car
Wednesday night apparently were killed by someone who was in the vehicle with them,
St. Louis police said. The incident happened about 7:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of
Bircher Boulevard near Interstate 70.

Police initially thought the shooting might have been a case of murder-suicide, but
no weapon was found, and the entry of the gunshot wounds indicated that a
murder-suicide scenario was unlikely, police said.

The victims were Adrian L. Bivens, 32, and Latongia Bowens, 26, both of the 5900
block of Sherry Avenue. The two were described by police as boyfriend-girlfriend.

Both were shot in the head.

Police said they have no motive, and no witnesses reported seeing anyone run from
Bivens\' car after the shooting.

Our earlier story:

ST. LOUIS

Two people with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies were found dead Wednesday night
inside a car that crashed into a light post and came to a stop on Interstate 70.

The victims were identified today as Adrian Bivens, 32, the driver, and his
girlfriend, Latongia Bowens, 26, both of St. Louis.

St. Louis police were investigating the crash and deaths as a potential
murder-suicide. Witnesses told police that the victims\' white Pontiac Grand Am was
heading east about 7:30 p.m. on Bircher Boulevard, a service road along the south
side of I-70 in St. Louis, just west of O\'Fallon Park.

Witnesses told police the car then went out of control and plowed through a chain
link fence separating Bircher from the eastbound lanes of I-70. The car struck a
light pole and came to a stop in the eastbound lanes, about 75 feet beyond where it
broke through the fence.

Two cars traveling east on I-70 had to swerve sharply to avoid the Pontiac. Those
drivers stopped and were providing information to police.

The witnesses said they didn\'t hear any gunshots. Shattered glass was spread across
Bircher Boulevard where the Grand Am struck the chain link fence.

Police were continuing to investigate Wednedsay night.

\"It\'s too early to tell whether we can classify this as a murder-suicide,\" police
Lt. Col. Roy Joachimstaler said.

Traffic was shut down in the eastbound lanes of I-70 and on Bircher Boulevard.
